Monday the 30th of May 2011 - the Celebration of our 19th Birthday was a great success. With Distinguished Guests; The Member for Gosnells: Chris Tallentire and The Mayor of Gosnells: Olwin Searle. Both were able to, at the end of the Formal Meeting, make very impressionable statements of thanks and appreciation of the enjoyable evening they had. The Mayor also commended the Toastmasters work amongst Children  with our Gavel Clubs and Youth Leadership Program

Both these programs can be run in your school, your Youth Group/Club or organised within your neighbourhood. Talk to Foothills to be supported through these wonderful programs.
- NEWS FLASH -

Looking to improve your speaking and leadership skills? Ignite your career? Win that job interview?
You’ve come to the right place. Since 1924, more than 4 million people around the world have become more confident speakers and leaders because of their participation in Toastmasters.

Toastmasters International is a world leader in communication and leadership development. Today, our membership is 260,000 strong. These members improve their speaking and leadership skills by attending one of the 12,500-plus clubs that make up our global network of meeting locations.

Membership in Toastmasters is one of the greatest investments you can make in yourself. At $90* every six months, it is also one of the most cost-effective skill-building tools available anywhere.

Mission, Vision and Values

Mission
Toastmasters International is the leading movement devoted to making effective oral communication a worldwide reality.

Through its member clubs, Toastmasters International helps men and women learn the arts of speaking, listening, and thinking – vital skills that promote self-actualization, enhance leadership potential, foster human understanding, and contribute to the betterment of mankind.

It is basic to this mission that Toastmasters International continually expand its worldwide network of member clubs, thereby offering ever-greater numbers of people the opportunity to benefit from its programs.

Vision
Toastmasters International empowers people to achieve their full potential and realize their dreams. Through our member clubs, people throughout the world can improve their communication and leadership skills, and find the courage to change.

Values
Toastmasters International’s core values are integrity, dedication to excellence, service to the member, and respect for the individual. These are values worthy of a great organization, and we believe we should incorporate them as anchor points in every decision we make. Our core values provide us with a means of not only guiding but also evaluating our operations, our planning, and our vision for the future.

            How Does It Work?

·                                 A Toastmasters meeting is a learn-by-doing workshop in which participants hone their speaking and leadership skills in a friendly atmosphere. A typical group has 20 to 40 members who meet weekly, biweekly or monthly.

A typical Foothills General Agenda Meeting lasts 90 minutes. Prior to the General Meetings are 90 minutes of Educational Workshops, Mentoring Sessions, Planning Activities, that start at 6:35PM each Monday.

·                                 There is no instructor in a Toastmasters meeting. Instead, members evaluate one another’s presentations. This feedback process is a key part of the program’s success. Meeting participants also give impromptu talks on assigned topics, conduct meetings and develop skills related to timekeeping, grammar and parliamentary procedure.

·                                 Members learn communication skills by working in the Competent Communication manual, a series of 10 self-paced speaking assignments designed to instill a basic foundation in public speaking.
·                       Members also learn leadership skills by taking on various meeting roles and working in the Competent Leadership manual. In our learn-by-doing approach, we don't lecture members about leadership skills; we give them responsibilities and mentoring to help. Then we ask them to lead.
